WOZNIAK APPLAUDS “OUTPERFORMING” SCHOOL DISTRICTS

JOHNSTOWN, June 28, 2005 – Four Cambria County school districts have been named to the Standard and Poor’s list of “outperforming school districts” in Pennsylvania, according to state Sen. John N. Wozniak.

“Our local schools are meeting, and exceeding, expectations,” said Wozniak (D-Cambria/ Clinton/ Centre/ Clearfield/ Somerset). “Being named an ‘outperforming school district’ is a credit to our hardworking students, their teachers, who guide them along the way, and their parents, who set the example for lifelong learning.”

Blacklick Valley, Conemaugh Valley, Greater Johnstown Area, and Portage Area were among just Pennsylvania 47 school districts to be named to the Standard and Poor’s list.

Standard and Poor’s School Evaluation Services provides impartial, transparent analyses of the nation’s education data. The service identifies an “outperforming school district” as one that reports significantly higher percentages of students who achieve proficiency on state reading and math tests, compared with other school districts in Pennsylvania with similar levels of poverty.

“I hope that other schools will be inspired by the achievements of these four Cambria County districts,” Wozniak said. “When you have the drive to learn and succeed, nothing can stop you.”
