WOZNIAK SPONSORS UPJ WEEK IN PENNSYLVANIA

HARRISBURG, September 24, 2007 –
The state Senate today unanimously passed a resolution sponsored by state Sen. John Wozniak (D-Johnstown) recognizing the 80th anniversary of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

The resolution designates the week of September 23 through September 30, 2007, as “University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Week” in Pennsylvania.

“As a UPJ alum, it brings me great pleasure to publicly recognize this milestone,” Wozniak said. “This first-rate university has been providing high quality education to western Pennsylvania for 80 years now.”

Wozniak received his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 1978.

The resolution also congratulates the new incoming president of the university, Dr. Jem Spectar. Dr. Spectar was previously the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Western Oregon University.

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown was founded in 1927 and is now home to 2,750 full time students. U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges has ranked UPJ as 3rd in the north in comprehensive colleges and universities for five consecutive years.
