Let Me Know Your Thoughts
Knowing your views about key issues is important to me. Please take
a few minutes to answer the survey below.
Health Care
Earlier this year, Governor Ed Rendell
proposed a new health care initiative called “Prescription for
Pennsylvania.” The plan provides access to affordable health care
for every Pennsylvanian. This plan includes a payroll tax if a
business does not provide health care for its employees.
Do you support Governor Rendell’s
healthcare plan even if taxes are increased on businesses that do
not provide healthcare insurance for their employees?
Energy
As you may know, utility rates have
been capped. However, rate caps are set to soon expire. One way to
combat the expected rate spike is to change consumer purchasing
products credits for weatherization, energy saving appliances, smart
meters and other new innovations that promote energy conservation.
Would a state tax credit influence
your decision to purchase energy efficient appliances and use energy
conservation products?
Transportation
Governor Rendell recently convened a
special committee to look at the transportation needs of
Pennsylvania, including roads, bridges and mass transit. The
commission identified $1.7 billion in transportation funding that is
necessary to address the crisis.
Do you believe there is a crisis concerning roads, bridges and mass
transit?
Would you be willing to support a tax hike on gas, real estate
transfer or income to fund local transportation initiatives provided
that the money generated from the tax stays in the local area?
Property Tax
Voters earlier this spring generally
voted against shifting the local school tax burden from property
taxes to income taxes. As a result, homeowners will have to wait for
additional property tax relief from an estimated $1 billion in
gaming revenues. The reduction in property tax bills will very
likely happen next year.
However, some have argued that we need
to do more.
Knowing that many would lose a
federal tax deduction, do you support adding 1 percent to the sales
tax levy, taking the rate from 6 percent to 7 percent, if all the
money were used to fund property tax reductions?
Yes
No
Would you prefer to wait for gaming funds to slash property taxes
without any additional tax increase?
