OVER $8 MILLION TO WATER PROJECTS IN CENTRE AND CLINTON COUNTIES

JOHNSTOWN, April 17, 2007 –
Clean water projects in Centre and Clinton counties will receive over $8 million in low interest state loans, according to State Sen. John N. Wozniak (D-Johnstown).

“It is important to safeguard the health of the community against pollution. We must work diligently to preserve our environment,” Wozniak said. “This is why I am pleased to announce this critical funding for these important wastewater projects.

“Improving the quality of the water in the area will help attract families and businesses to these communities.”

The funding was approved today at board meeting of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).

Under this round of PENNVEST funding, Rush Township in Centre County, will receive $1,891,650 for the installation of 16,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer, pumping station, force main and associated appurtenances.

Wozniak said that current on-lot septic systems have malfunctions throughout this low-income community.

“Safe drinking water is essential, no matter what community you are from,” Wozniak said. “This funding will ensure that untreated or partially treated sewage will be eliminated in publicly accessible areas.”

Lock Haven City, Clinton County will receive $6.1 million to drill several vertical holes through the Warren Ohl Dam and into bedrock, and injecting 62,500 cubic feet of cementious grout into bedrock fractures.

This project will address the problem of raw water seeping underneath the dam causing concerns for “piping” erosion, or possible dam failure.

Wozniak said this project will allow the city to bring the dam back into compliance with the Bureau of Dam Safety.
