WOZNIAK WELCOMES ELECTRIC CAR DEVELOPERS
TO CAPITOL HARRISBURG, June 17, 2008 – State Sen. John N. Wozniak recently welcomed the developers of innovative electric cars to Harrisburg for a demonstration of their cutting edge technology. “A century and a half ago, with the discovery of oil, Pennsylvania launched a new era in energy and economic progress,” Wozniak said. “If we are going to recover that success and prosperity, we need to embrace and invest in the energy source for the next century. We’re starting right here in Cambria and Somerset counties.” Kuchera Engineering, headquartered in Windber, Somerset County, has been developing a line of electric vehicles that use no gasoline at all. Their products – including the nation’s first all-electric police car – were on display in Harrisburg Monday to encourage lawmakers and consumers to change their thinking about what’s under the hood. “Dependence on foreign oil not only undermines our national security,” Wozniak said, “but it’s shortsighted economic policy. Cleaner cars mean not only better air and water, but also better jobs.” Kuchera is marketing the Kuchera Electric Vehicle (KEV), a high-performance off-road car being marketed for military, security and police organizations. The KEV tops out at 70 mph and can go 75 miles on a two-hour charge. Wozniak test drove the KEV along Commonwealth Avenue behind the Capitol. “I was very impressed with the quickness and power,” he said. “It was a short drive into the future.” |
