WOZNIAK ANNOUNCES THREE GRANTS FOR AREA
PROJECTS HARRISBURG, April 30, 2008 - State Sen. John N. Wozniak announced today three grants that will fund projects in Cambria, Clearfield and Clinton counties. One of the state grants will help a Clinton County Township prepare sewage plans. “We face an enormous challenge in this century to better prepare for growing populations and development and preserve rivers and bays,” Wozniak said. “The best way to balance the need to preserve the environment and boost our economy is to plan in advance.” In Clinton County, the grant of $5,885 will be used to reimburse half of Castanea Township’s cost of preparing the official sewage plan and revisions to official plans as required under Act 537. In Clearfield County, recycling efforts will get a boost from a state grant. “Recycling is the front line in the battle to preserve our resources and protect our environment,” Wozniak said. “I’m proud to support local efforts to promote recycling as something every Pennsylvanian can do to help.” The $17,495 grant from the Department of Environmental Resources was awarded under a 20-year-old state program that helps counties hire a recycling coordinator to run local programs. The grant will pay half the salary and expenses of the county coordinator. “County recycling programs are right in line with the environmental mantra ‘think globally; act locally,” Wozniak said. “Preserving a clean, bright future begins in every room in every home.” In Cambria County, a grant that will help citizens dispose of household chemicals in a safe and environmentally friendly way. “Unfortunately, many of the products we use are too volatile or hazardous for the regular trash,” Wozniak said. “I’m happy to support efforts to help local citizens do the right thing when it comes to certain household chemicals.” The grant was awarded under the Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Program supervised by the state Department of Environmental Resources. It will send $4,208 to Cambria County to reimburse half the cost of running a hazardous waste collection event at the Cambria County Solid Waste Authority. |
