WOZNIAK ANNOUNCES OVER $725K IN RECYCLING GRANTS

HARRISBURG, January 17, 2008 - -
State Sen. John Wozniak (D-Johnstown) today announced that four recycling programs in his legislative district will receive a total of $728,962 in state Recycling Development and Implementation grants.

“This funding will help expand local recycling programs and also make strides towards improving our environment,” Wozniak said. “Recycling programs like these help make our state a cleaner place to live and work.”

The following recycling programs will receive funding:

· Clinton County Solid Waste Authority will receive $440,397 to improve the drop-off and curbside recycling programs and improve the Authority’s recycling processing operations

· Centre County Solid Waste Authority will receive $211,914 to enhance and expand the Authority’s current recycling collection and processing capabilities.

· Philipsburg Borough, Centre County will receive $49,141 to improve the Borough’s composting operation.

· Clearfield County Solid Waste Authority will receive $27,510 to determine how the Authority’s recycling program can be sustainable, improve public event recycling, and enhance the Authority’s recycling enforcement program.

The funding is part of $20 million in grants throughout the state through the Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program, which reimburses local governments and solid waste authorities for the cost of municipal recycling and composting programs.

In 2005, Pennsylvanians recycled a record 4.9 million tons of municipal waste, saving consumers and industries nearly $263 million in disposal costs and providing businesses with materials valued at $577 million.
