Harrisburg – October 14, 2016 – State Sen. John N. Wozniak (D-Cambria/Bedford/Clearfield) issued the following statement concerning the announcement today that Gautier Specialty Metals, LLC was awarded a $2 million state grant a construction of a plate mill at its facility in Johnstown.
Wozniak said today that $2 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funds were approved for a plate mill to produce nonaerospace titanium for U. S. Defense Department work and other markets.
Wozniak’s comments on the grant follow:
“We need to find ways to make the types of investments in our manufacturing that produces family-sustaining jobs and business activity. The funding that was approved for Gautier is important because it builds on a world-class facility that we have in our region and bolsters its ability to produce materials that are marketable worldwide.
“Our region has been a major player in manufacturing for many years. Our manufacturing plants and our workers are second to none in producing materials and we can compete on the international market. Gautier has long been recognized as a strong innovator who has adapted to changes in market.
“The ability to access large pools of state resources to aid local business is critical to completing projects, building our employment base and generating new commercial activity. I am very pleased that the governor released the funds and that these dollars were earmarked for Gautier so that it could construct a new plate mill in Johnstown.”
